Ceramic Mosaic Tile Beads, Ancient - Afghanistan (AF562)

These unique beads were created from broken mosaic tiles that have been excavated in the desert of Afghanistan. Many pieces have artwork/color on both sides. The tiles were commonly produced for at least 4000 years and these particular tile pieces are thought to be at least 2000 years old. We purchased these beads from an Afghani man who has been collecting the broken tiles since he was a boy; he and his uncle made them into beads. Though these tiles have survived the hardships of time, they do have a somewhat fragile character, yet they have plenty of strength and integrity to be used as beads. There are 32 beads in total, ranging in size from 11mm x 11mm x 7mm to 21mm x 18mm x 7mm. These beads are one of a kind, the strand you see pictured are the exact beads you will receive.
