Assorted Sandcast Glass Beads (SC613)

These beads were made by pulverizing old (recycled) glass, which is then poured into molds and then placed in a crude earthen oven where the powered is molten into glass. They are often referred to as "powder glass" beads as well as "sand cast". Many of the designs were hand painted. The strand measures approx 28" and there are approx 49 beads in total, measuring 10-22mm x 8-20mm. They are strung on raffia and were hand crafted in Ghana, Africa.
