Colorful Painted Sandcast Glass Beads (SC611)

These beads were made by pulverizing old (recycled) glass, which is then poured into molds and then placed in a crude earthen oven where the powered is molten into glass. They are often referred to as "powder glass" beads as well as "sand cast". Most of the beads were hand painted. The strand measures approx 30" and there are approx 45 beads in total, measuring 13-20mm x 10-15mm. They are strung on raffia and were hand crafted in Ghana, Africa.
