Colorful Painted Sandcast Glass Beads (SC616)

These beads were made by pulverizing old (recycled) glass, which is then poured into molds and then placed in a crude earthen oven where the powder is melted into molten glass. They are often referred to as "powder glass" beads as well as "sand cast". Most of the beads were hand painted. The strand measures approx 28" and there are approx 68 beads in total, measuring approx 9-13mm in diameter x 9-17mm long (3mm hole). They are strung on raffia and were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa.
