Colorful Painted Sandcast Glass Beads (SC631)

These beads were made by pulverizing old (recycled) glass, which is then poured into molds and then placed in a crude earthen oven where the powered is molten into glass. They are often referred to as "powder glass" beads as well as "sand cast". Most of the beads were hand painted. The strand measures approx 40" and there are approx 58 beads in total, measuring approx 9-25mm long x 8-14mm in diameter (3mm hole). They are strung on raffia and were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa.
