Fluorite is found worldwide in regions including China, Norway, Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, England, Eastern Europe, Italy, and the USA ( Kentucky and Illinois).
Pure fluorite results from the elements calcium and fluorine and is colorless in this form. The various colors within Fluorite are developed from tiny amounts of other elements substituting for the calcium in the crystalline formation. Transparent to translucent, this glass-like mineral may be found as irregular masses filling veins that cut through rocks. Light reflects strongly from Fluorite's crystal face and cleavage surfaces.
Fluorite is very soft stone with a hardness of 4 on the Moh’s scale. State mineral of Illinois.
