These 'Frijole Rojo" seed beads came from Guatemala. They bean shaped. The strand measures approx 23" and there are roughly 75 beads in total, measuring approx 8x10mm. A 1mm hole was drilled through the center of each bead (side drilled). Expect some variations in size, shape and color as these beads are in their natural form. Note: these beads are actually strung into a necklace with a Huayruro seed as a fastener.

Hawaiian!
Ilima (Molokai, Aawaii) 8/30/2011 10:04 AM
These look like the Hawaiian wili wili seed beads. They have been used in Hawaiian lei crafts for centuries, but a few years ago, a species of invasive wasp destroyed almost all of those trees. I make seed necklaces and earrings and recently, to my delight and your website i found these again. I also use a seed of acacia tree which is elongated, skinny and neutral in color. The seeds lasts longer if the necklaces are rubbed with oil occasionally. Also, try to get those acacia seeds. I get them from Peru. They are drilled either in the center, or they can have a hole on each end or even 3 holes which make them dividers for 3 strand bracelets. An addition of this product will give even more versatility of designing.
