These beads were handcrafted of bone in Kenya, Africa. They are roundish in shape and tabular (flat). The design work was added using the batik method. The strand measures 26" and there are approx 32 beads in total, each measures approx 20mm in diameter x 5mm thick, the hole measures 2.5-3mm. They are strung on raffia. As with any handmade bead, expect some slight variation in color, shape, size and especially the design.

Polka dot heaven
jeanne-marie (fort collins, co) 9/20/2010 2:45 PM
I couldn't resist purchasing these beads--and I'm so glad I didn't. I love polka dots and I love nice bone beads (which is strangely ironic since I'm a lifelong vegetarian, lol. There are so many ways you can go with these, so many different color schemes that would look great with these beads. This weekend I made a necklace that combines them with blue magnesite, blue green Czech table cut beads (also from HMB), white and peach calcite, peridot jasper, gold, copper and a rust colored Czech glass bead with swirls of copper and blue green color--and wow, do these beads make the necklace shine! Like a polka dot heaven with a tribal feel. Just Love 'em!

These are a classic
Martha (Austin, TX) 9/16/2010 7:07 AM
Like the batik stars, these are a classic. I've bought many strands of these over the years. The contrast of the black and white gives them great graphic impact, and the quirky irregularities give them character. They look great paired with colorful bone spacers for a funky ethnic look, and the holes are large enough to be strung on 2mm leather. They're large, about the size of a quarter. Because they're hand carved, you'll get a few flawed ones, but it's a very fair price.
