These beads were made by women from refugee camps of northern
Uganda. They are handmade from strips of discard colored paper and magazine pages that are rolled into beads and then lacquered with a non-toxic varnish. You will receive a mixed bag of approx 55-70 beads, each measures approx 8-20mm in length x 5-18mm in diameter (the majority are 14mm long x 8mm in diameter). Income from the sale of these beads helps the women support themselves and families as they return to homesteads and slowly rebuild their lives. You can feel good in knowing that by purchasing these beads a large portion of the profit goes directly to the source.

I mixed these wonderful beads with multi-coloured crystal and howlite to make some beautiful pieces. My clients bought them all, especially when I told them were the beads come from and the work involved!

Photo is pretty accurate as to the type of assortment I received. As expected, the beads are very lightweight. They have a rough charm and I will have to think about fun designs for them. A nice way to support a good cause.

A lovely mix of sizes, shapes and colours, some bold, some subtle; I particularly like the rondelles and saucers. I'd never have the patience to make this type of bead myself, but they'll be fun to use now that others have done the hard work!
